Aunt Baba is a hypothetical film based on an old folktale. The story follows a young girl, Anya, trapped in the house of the titular evil witch Baba Yaga. She escapes by treating each of the witch's monstrous servants better than Baba Yaga ever did, earning their trust and assistance.
ANYA is the protagonist of the film. She's a clever engineer creating mechanical solutions for the various monster's struggles (think Mcguiver but a little girl!). She acts on a strong sense of morality and care for others.
Her goal in the film is to escape Baba Yaga's home, but she can't help but go out of her way to help the monsters in need, who, in turn, return the favor.
BABA YAGA is the film's antagonist. She tricked Anya into staying with her by pretending to be her aunt. Baba aims to eat Anya, since she is a hungry evil witch. She has many monstrous servants serving her, who she is very cruel to.
However as the film progresses, the monsters become hurdles for her as they sympathize and support with Anya.
She's designed to be large and threatening whether she stalks the halls with a slow stride or chases Anya across the garden.
CAT GHOST is the first monster Anya befriends. She wants to see Anya succeed, but is extremely pessimistic. Shes tells Anya (and the audience by proxy) about the house and the monsters and why Anya will never escape.
Anya will repeatedly prove her wrong.
The film is designed in a historic vintage vibe. The style being somewhat reminiscent of wood cuts and folktale illustration. The limited color palette sticks to earthy beiges and greens, using reds and pinks as a complimentary pop to highlight focal points.
The world being filled with eerie but cute designs. It uses singular eyes as it's primary unifying design element.
